The World Games Family gains more supporters. During The World Games 2022, Sport Austria, Ayelet (the Federation of Non-Olympic Sport in Israel), the Japan World Games Association and the Latvian Sports Federation Council have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the International Word Games Association.
The national sports entities aim to strengthen the relationship between the IWGA and The World Games family. Part of this is the recognition of The World Games as the main summer event for non-Olympic Sports.
In addition Joachim Gossow, IWGA CEO, and Guillaume Felli, IWGA Head of Projects, held talks with numerous national sports organizations or National Olympic Committees (NOCs). These included the NOCs of the People's Republic of China, Korea, France, Mexico, the Netherlands and Colombia. The content of these discussions was in each case how to intensify cooperation. In addition, it is important to increase the status of non-Olympic sports in the national federations. In this sense, the IWGA and the national sport entities want to explore possibilities of closer cooperation with regard to their respective communication, cooperation and promotion programme, including marketing and broadcasting.
Guillaume Felli said about the agreements as well as the mutual exchange:
"The national sport federations support us increasingly, and meanwhile are themselves a fruitful connection with us. This cooperation with the national federations is of importance to us, in order to make our event known in the individual countries. The main focus is that the athletes get the recognition they deserve in their home countries. Here in Birmingham, we have made decisive progress in this direction.”
The World Games is a multi-sport event staged every four years by the International World Games Association, organised with the support of the International Olympic Committee. The 11th edition of The World Games will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, 7-17 July 2022. 3,600 athletes from 34 sports and over 100 countries will take part in The World Games.
