Cheerleading – synchronized dance and gymnastic skills

Discipline at The World Games 2025: Double Pom

Cheerleading, which began as an activity where teams in uniform dress cheer for the sports team they support, using chants and gymnastic routines, has developed into a fully recognized Olympic sport practiced world-wide.

The discipline Pom dance is an energetic and dynamic style of dance that places emphasis on precise and synchronised arm movements, formations, jumps, and gymnastic skills. It is characterised by its use of poms, which dancers hold in their hands throughout the routine. The choreography in pom dance is typically fast-paced, visually appealing, and filled with high-energy movements.

Pom dance incorporates elements from various dance styles, including jazz and hip hop. Dancers work together as a team, aiming to make their movements perfectly synchronised, in the process creating visually stunning pictures and patterns on the performance floor. The style demands discipline, strength, stamina and very good coordination.
