November 19, 2024 – Jan Fransoo, a member of the IWGA Executive Committee (ExCo) and a prominent figure in the international korfball community, was celebrated with a prestigious award from both the International Korfball Federation (IKF) and the Royal Dutch Korfball Federation (KNKV) on the evening of 18 November 2024. This recognition highlights Fransoo’s outstanding contributions to the sport, both in the Netherlands and on a global scale.
The award ceremony took place at the Papendal Sports Center, following Fransoo’s presentation on The World Games during the General Members’ Meeting of the Dutch Olympic Sports Federation (NOC*NSF). Both federations kept the award a surprise until the very last moment, amplifying the impact of this deepest acknowledgment.
Fransoo, who has served on the IWGA ExCo since 2018 and is currently in his second term through 2025, has devoted 27 years to competing in korfball at both local and national levels.
A passionate advocate and visionary for korfball, he has played a pivotal role in advancing the sport’s visibility and participation around the world. Fransoo’s dedication has left an indelible mark on korfball’s development, fostering significant growth and increased recognition for the sport internationally.
This award not only celebrates his achievements but also underscores the deep appreciation held by the entire korfball community for his enduring commitment and influential leadership.
The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
