It’s six weeks since The World Games 2017. We’ve talked to some athletes and officials to find out their reflections about the Games. This is the third article in the series with people around the world talking about the Main Event of the year, The World Games in Wroclaw, Poland.
“I have really good memories from TWG2017. My races were pretty good and the organisation of the Orienteering events at TWG2017 was of a really high standard. I enjoyed a great time in Wroclaw!
I really liked the Orienteering Sprint in the city centre of Wroclaw. Without The World Games it wouldn’t have been possible to host such a race in the middle of the picturesque town square.
It is also very nice to stay all together in the same hotel and experience a week together. It was much closer to an Olympic feeling than we experience at other events. I look forward to defending my gold medal at The World Games 2021 in Birmingham!”
Matthias Kyburz (SUI), The World Games winner in Orienteering
“It was a wonderful time in Wroclaw. I was happy to be able to watch and explore different and new sports. All people were very friendly to us in Wroclaw. In a sense, The World Games felt like the Olympics to us.”
Sanna Pasanen (FIN), competed in Bowling
“TWG2017 was a wonderful event, it felt like a big party. It was a good opportunity for athletes from all over the world to communicate with each other, to learn from each other.
We would like to thank the organisers: thank you for the hard work and the dedication which made TWG2017 one of the best The World Games events ever.”
China Sport Climbing Team
“It was my first time at The World Games and I liked it a lot. It was very good organisation both from TWG and from the local orienteering organiser. They did a splendid job. It felt very professional. It felt like there were people in the audience who had not seen orienteering before, and that is always great.”
Lina Strand (SWE), TWG2017 Bronze medallist in Orienteering
