Kickboxing admitted to The World Games Family

BELEK (07/05/2013) The International World Games Association welcomes a new member federation into The World Games family. During the IWGA’s Annual General Meeting in Belek/Turkey on Monday, the delegates voted in favour of the admission of the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO).

With that, The World Games family now includes 37 international sports federations. The new President of the IWGA José Perurena welcomed the new IWGA member.

The admission to the IWGA does not mean that this sport will be part of the official programme of the 10th edition in 2017, in Wroclaw, Poland. Kickboxing has applied to perform as an invitational sport at The World Games in Wroclaw. Subsequently, the federation can apply for participation in the official programme of The World Games 2021.

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
