CoCom Meeting

On December 2nd and 3rd representatives of the International World Games Association and the City of Wroclaw met at their first The World Games 2017 Coordinating Committee meeting. These key meetings will be held twice a year until 2017 to ensure proper coordination and supervision of activities.

news-first-cocom-dec2-3The exhaustive agenda covered all currently relevant issues from organizational structures and budgets, through infrastructure development plans and games services to marketing and promotional initiatives. Wroclaw Organizing Committee staff presented detailed plans and key milestones for the next four years. The IWGA provided their input in all areas necessary and described their own activities and plans. The most important being the finalization of the official sports programme of TWG 2017. The WOC also presented its candidates for invitational sports which now the IWGA will take time to consider and provide feedback to Wroclaw as soon as possible.

We are one big family and our common goal is to get better and better," said IWGA’s President Ron Froehlich during the press conference after the meeting. The Mayor of Wroclaw Rafal Dutkiewicz added: "We are very pleased with the meeting’s outcome. For us in Poland it is especially important that we have the full support from the Ministry of Sport and Tourism and the Polish Olympic Committee for organizing The World Games 2017."

news-first-cocom-dec2-3 03After the press conference IWGA representatives visited five future TWG2017 venues, among them the existing 40 000 seat stadium and the outdoor swimming pool that will be redeveloped to also provide an olympic size indoor pool.

Members of the Coordinating Committee include from the International World Games Association: President Ron Froehlich, Vice-President Max Bishop, CEO Joachim Gossow and General Menager Patsy Dew. The WOC is represented by Wroclaw’s Vice-Mayor Wojciech Adamski, WOC President Piotr Przygonski, Director General Hanna Domagala, Venue Director Pawel Losinski, Sports Director Grzegorz Pyzalka and Marketing Director Bartlomiej Zak.

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
