YOUTH GAMES FINAL

WROCLAW. June 10th was the day of the Grand Final of the Youth Games: Several thousand children from schools in Wrocław got together in the Wrocław Stadium. The Youth Games Final was the pinnacle of the activities staged in May at Wrocław’s schools to promote some of the sports that will feature in The World Games 2017 in Wrocław.

The event began with the heart-stopping view of two parachutists landing on the grass of the stadium, while holding the Youth Games and The World Games flags. The President of the Wrocław Organising Committee, Piotr Przygoński, opened the Youth Games with a solemn speech.

Though more modest in scale, the entire ceremony was modeled after the opening ceremonies which mark the start of the Winter or Summer Olympics.

The main attraction of the event was the final competition between schools, which for months had been fighting for the privilege to turn up at the Stadium Wrocław. The students competed in such sports as Tug of War, Orienteering, Dancing, Ultimate Frisbee or Sumo.

In the Wrocław Stadium the children could meet the World Champion in Karate, Łukasz Wójcik, multiple Olympian, Paweł Randa, players of the “Kosynierzy Wrocław” Lacrosse club who will go to the World Cup in the United States, players of an American Football club - the Panthers Wrocław, and also hard-training athletes (runners).

As part the promotion program of The World Games 2017, the Youth Games are an event which certainly encourages children to take to recreational sports. We keep our fingers crossed for the next edition of this interesting program after the holiday break. It’s a unique opportunity to introduce students to further disciplines of The World Games 2017, while they have lots of fun during training sessions.
