IWGA President Urges NOCs to Back World Games 2017
At the XX ANOC General Assembly in Washington D.C. last Friday, International World Games Association (IWGA) President José Perurena presented The World Games in a well-received speech. He invited the delegates from 206 National Olympic Committees to attend the next World Games in Wroclaw Poland, 20-30 July 2017.
The IWGA President stressed: “In 2017, we aim for nothing less than the best World Games ever. One of the stepping stones to help us reach this goal is close cooperation with National Olympic Committees.” The IWGA President encouraged the National Olympic Committees to support the 10th edition of The World Games. José Perurena: “Working together as a team is essential to take our event up to the next level.”
In advance of this meeting, IOC President Thomas Bach sent a letter to the Presidents of the National Olympic Committees stressing the importance of The World Games. Bach wrote: “The International World Games Association and The World Games event play important roles in the framework of the Olympic Movement.” Thomas Bach went on in his letter: “I look forward to the continuing success and growing importance of The World Games.” José Perurena welcomed Thomas Bach’s letter: “We are grateful for Thomas Bach’s endorsement of The World Games 2017.”
After the IWGA presentation at the general assembly on Friday, Andrzej Kraśnicki, NOC President of Poland thanked José Perurena personally for promoting the biggest multisport event ever to be held in Poland. He confirmed the Polish Olympic Committee’s support to the Wroclaw Organizing Committee and the IWGA.
In two years time more than 3,500 athletes from 100 Nations will compete in 27 sports on the official programme.
