President of Poland to be Patron of TWG 2017

The World Games 2017 under the honorary patronage of President of Poland
The World Games 2017 in Wroclaw will be held under the honorary patronage of Andrzej Duda, President of Poland. This was announced by the Wroclaw Organizing Committee (WOC) on Thursday. The 10th edition of the multisport-event will take place from 20-30 July 2017.

Maciej Łopiński, Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the President, wrote in a letter to the Mayor of Wrocław, Rafał Dutkiewicz: „It is my great pleasure to inform you that the President of the Republic of Poland has accepted your invitation to become honorary patron of The World Games 2017. This is a prestigious sports event with the best athletes from all over the world participating.” Mr. Łopiński went on to explain: “The President believes that hosting a sports event on such a large scale will attract major attention from the fans and the media. It will become an outstanding opportunity to promote Wrocław and Poland.”

Asked to comment about President Andrzej Duda’s patronage, IWGA President José Perurena said: “We are absolutely delighted about the President of Poland’s endorsement. This important commitment shows us that The World Games 2017 has achieved recognition not only in Wroclaw and Lower Silesia but also in Poland as a whole. I am convinced that our partners in Wroclaw will deliver an outstanding event that will be recognized in the world of sport. The World Games 2017 will certainly fulfill the the desire of the host city and country for sustained promotion.”

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
