INFORMATION TO THE MEDIA

We are pleased to announce the opening of the Media Registration and Accreditation process for overseas media for The World Games 2025 – from 7-17 August 2025 in Chengdu, China.

  • ACCREDITATION

You are kindly invited to register and request your accreditation for the event, following this link to the official portal:

Registration opens on Monday 10 February 2025

Registration ends on Sunday 1 June 2025

Applications will be reviewed, and a decision will be communicated by email no later than 10 June 2025.

IMPORTANT

We kindly inform you that the Media access right and the IF / NOC&NSO Media staff access right are different. The participating IF / NOC&NSO Media staff will be accredited as Extra Officials. If you work for an IF or a NOC&NSO, please do not use the link provided above. The registration procedure will be communicated separately for your organisation. However, we encourage you to share it with your media database to promote TWG 2025.

We encourage media to apply as early as possible. Any questions regarding the application procedure should be referred to the IWGA Media and Communication team at [email protected].

The approved media will collect their ID Cards at the Media Accreditation Centre in the Main Media Centre (MMC) upon arrival. Media representatives must appear in person and be able to identify themselves with an official document such as passport or ID. ID should be consistent with the identity document information (passport) submitted in the EMS.

All media are required to sign the General Consent Form which will be sent to approved applicants. If the General Consent Form has not been signed online, a paper version must be signed upon reception of the ID card in Chengdu.

  • VISAS AND IMMIGRATION

Overseas media representatives must apply for a J2 visa to attend the event, regardless of their nationality. Even individuals from countries eligible for visa-free travel must apply.

  • CUSTOMS AND LOGISTICS

The Executive Committee of TWG 2025 Chengdu has set up an experienced team to help facilitate the client groups' custom clearance and also recommends customs declaration agent enterprises to provide professional customs- clearance services to stakeholders.

  • ACCOMMODATION

Official media hotels in Chengdu include:

  • Grand Mercure Chengdu East, located near the MMC (walking distance)
  • Tianfu International Hotel Complex (Rongya Courtyard and Rongxiu Courtyard), 20-minute drive from the MMC

MEDIA FACILITIES

The MMC is located in the Western Financial Innovation Centre in Chengdu Eastern New Area. During TWG 2025 Chengdu, it will provide all necessary facilities and services for the media to report TWG 2025 Chengdu. The MMC will officially operate from 4 to 17 August 2025. Each venue will have a sub-media centre for journalsit and media personnel to work from.  

  • TRANSPORT

Overseas media can arrive at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport (CTU) or Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (TFU). The LOC will provide transportation between these airports and the official media hotels.

Three types of transportation services will be available for media during TWG 2025:

  • Arrival and departure transport service
  • Opening and closing ceremonies transport service
  • Games-time and official events transport

A 24-hour transport service will operate between the official arrival and departure points and the official media hotels.

During the Games, a media bus station will be set up near the MMC, offering scheduled shuttle services between:

  • The MMC and Tianfu International Hotel
  • The MMC and competition venues
  • The MMC and TWG Plaza

Additionally, a dedicated media transportation hub outside the MMC will connect the Tianfu International Hotel Complex with all sub-media centers at the competition venues.

  • COMPETITION PROGRAMME

5,000 participants from more than 100 countries, competing in 34 sports, 60 disciplines, and 225 medal events. Consult detailed schedule and the sports programme here.

Qualified athletes and countries

Results will be provided by Swiss Timing and available on the IWGA website.

Where to Watch

Most sessions will be live streamed on The World Games Live player, while daily highlights and VoD will also be available on the TWG Live.

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
