The International World Games Association (IWGA) and the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation and expanding Hong Kong’s role in The World Games, while also enhancing the IWGA’s global reach and impact.
This partnership builds on the successful hosting of the inaugural leg of The World Games Series (TWG Series) in Hong Kong from 11–13 October 2024, which showcased not only the city’s capacity as a world-class sporting venue but also the growing relevance of The World Games in Asia and this part of the world.
The MoU outlines a shared vision to further promote The World Games within Hong Kong, support athlete development, and explore new avenues of collaboration. The agreement also represents a strategic opportunity for the IWGA to tap into Hong Kong’s vibrant sports community and engage with key stakeholders in the region.
IWGA President Mr. José Perurena remarked:
“Hong Kong has always been a valued member of The World Games Family. The MoU with the SF&OC reflects our recognition of the city's contributions to our movement, and it also opens exciting new possibilities for the IWGA to strengthen its presence in a key territory. The success of the TWG Series event in October 2024 was a powerful example of how Hong Kong, China, embraces and elevates international sport.”
Hong Kong, China athletes continue to make their mark on The World Games stage. As of April 2025, over 16 athletes from Hong Kong have qualified to compete at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China, across eight different sports.
Among the most memorable moments in recent The World Games history was CHEUNG Ka Wai’s gold medal victory in Billiards Sports - Snooker - 15-Reds Men at The World Games 2022 in Birmingham (USA) marking a proud milestone for Hong Kong sport.
SF&OC President, Mr. Timothy FOK Tsun Ting said:

This MoU brings the total number of agreements with NOCs-NSOs to 19 – a testament to the growing global impact of The World Games and the IWGA’s commitment to fostering closer ties with national sports bodies to elevate the profile of multi-sport event worldwide.
