IOC Shortlist

published on 5 June, 2013

The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee agreed on a shortlist of sports that will be considered for inclusion in the sports programme of the 2020 Olympiad. These sports are: wrestling, baseball/softball and squash, one of which could be added to the 2020 sports programme to be voted on by the 125th IOC Session in Buenos Aires in September 2013. It is remarkable that Softball and Squash are part of the programme of The World Games 2013 in Cali, Colombia. IWGA President Ron Froehlich comments: “It is a matter of fact that The World Games are the stepping stone to the Olympics. We are proud that so many of our members have become Olympic sports.” Most recently Rugby Sevens has moved onto the programme of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Rugby will give its farewell from The World Games in Cali 2013.
