Host broadcaster ISB has shown The World Games 2022 and the city of Birmingham at its best. In the press conference on Friday, ISB Head of Production Ursula Romero said: “We are showing off Birmingham, and it’s very rewarding: the pictures are looking great and the city is looking very nice. And I think the organizers and the people of Birmingham can be very proud of what's going out about The World Games.”
The ‘great pictures’ are broadcast in more than 70 countries by various TV stations. Where there is no TV coverage, sport fans can follow the competitions at TWG 2022 on olympics.org. This means that the beauty of the city and the thrill of the events are displayed worldwide. To give some examples: South America has been covered by ESPN. CCTV in the People’s Republic of China – host of the upcoming edition – spreads not only the news but also pictures of the competitions in the current edition. In Germany, Switzerland and Austria, Sport1 has been broadcasting more than 100 hours of TWG 2022. CBS is the rights holder for the USA; a Ukrainian TV station can make use of the footage free of charge.
To serve these interests, ISB – International Sport Broadcasting – works with around 300 people from more than 20 countries. Eight mobile units drive from venue to venue to secure the TV production of each sport at TWG. Reporter teams gather and deliver side stories as well. Altogether the host broadcaster covers the event in all its facets. The teams work very hard to make this happen.
“Usually we start at six in the morning and it goes on until close to midnight. But it has been fun. Birmingham has been amazing. People here are very welcoming.”
In other words, showing off the beauty of Birmingham and the fascination of The World Games over eleven days “is challenging, but it’s also very good.”
The World Games is a multi-sport event staged every four years by the International World Games Association, organised with the support of the International Olympic Committee. The 11th edition of The World Games will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, 7-17 July 2022. 3,600 athletes from 34 sports and over 100 countries will take part in The World Games.
