It is with sadness that the International World Games Association has learned of the death of Hector Uribe Velez. The Manager of the Colombian Olympic Committee (COC) died in the early hours of Saturday, April 6, 2013, in Bogota. He was 55 years old.

During his career as a manager, Hector Uribe Velez was member of the Colombian Basketball Federation’s Executive Board and President of the Colombian Powerboating Federation for twelve years. In 2009 he was appointed Manager of the Colombian Olympic Committee and under his leadership during Colombia’s last Olympic cycle, Colombia’s participation in the 2012 London Olympics ended with a record breaking 104 athletes winning a historic eight medals.

The COC appointed Hector Uribe Velez to advice and support the Cali Organizer in their successful preparation of this year’s World Games.

The IWGA is grateful for his great commitment and conveys its condolences to his family.

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
