COLORADO SPRINGS (06/01/2014)

The International World Games Association launched an online vote for the athlete and/or the team of the year. Until January 31 supporters and friends of The World Games can cast a vote for the top athlete and/or the top team of 2013. Voting closes on January 31st and will be available online on the IWGA website: www.theworldgames.org. Ten sportsmen and ten teams have been shortlisted, among whom you can choose with a click. The winners will be announced after the public vote and will be awarded a trophy in cooperation with their federations.

The shortlist includes, among others, the most successful athlete of The World Games in Cali: Marcel Hassemeier, Germany, who won four gold medals and a silver medal in Lifesaving. Another candidate is Erica Jones, USA, who first set a new world record in Field Archery (compound) and won two gold medals the next day. The shortlisted teams include the seemingly unbeatable Dutch Korfball team and South Africa’s Rugby team.

It is the first time ever that the IWGA stages a vote on the Athlete of the Year. 'After the highly successful Games in Cali, showcasing an outstanding performance of our sportsmen and women, we want to celebrate again with this public vote', explained IWGA President Ron Froehlich.

For the winners attractive prizes are foreseen. Three teams - the authors of the best works, will be rewarded with unique sports and tourism packages. All details of the "Hero of our greatest sports event" competition can be found at:
