A "Volunteer" is 75!
The World Games Family wishes Ron Froehlich all the best. The President of the International World Games Association (IWGA) celebrates his 75th birthday this Monday. We send him our best wishes and we also thank him for his continuing successful work at the head of IWGA. Ron Froehlich (USA) has been the President of the IWGA since 1992.
The 9th World Games in Cali, Colombia, in the summer of 2013 were his sixth event as the head of the organization. More than 500,000 spectators made the most recent edition of the multi-sports event a huge success for the IWGA and its 36 member federations.
Born in South Africa in 1939 and now residing in Birmingham, Alabama, Ron Froehlich can look back on a successful career as an entrepreneur. Since 1962 he has been dedicating himself to the world of sports as a volunteer. These days, he is not only the President of IWGA, but also Vice-President and Treasurer of SportAccord and serves as an elected auditor for the International Gymnastics Federation. His is also member of the Olympic Programme Commission.
In 2010, Ron Froehlich was awarded the Olympic Order, the highest award of the Olympic Movement, by International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge.
Describing his duties and responsibilities as an experienced sports administrator, Ron Froehlich leaves no doubt: "The athletes take center stage". He regards himself as a "volunteer". The World Games Family wishes him good health and plenty of energy for the years ahead.
