American Football, Indoor Rowing, Kickboxing and Speedway to be Showcased at The World Games 2017
American Football, Indoor Rowing, Kickboxing and Speedway are the four sports on the invitational sports programme of The World Games 2017 in Wrocław, Poland. This was agreed between the Wroclaw Organizing Committee and the International World Games Association. The 10th edition of The World Games (from 3 to 13 August 2017) will be hosted by the capital of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, which has a population of over 640,000. In addition to the invitational sports competitions, the official sports program will showcase 27 sports.
The host cities of The World Games have the right to propose invitational sports to highlight sports of particular local and/or national importance by presenting them during this multi-sport event. Speedway for example is an exceptionally popular sport in Poland. The city is also home to Sparta Wrocław and the Wrocław Panthers, two successful American Football teams. The Olympic Stadium, where Speedway competitions and American Football matches have been staged for years, will be completely refurbished for The World Games 2017 and afterwards will offer space for 15,000 spectators. Indoor Rowing also has a long tradition in the city. Since 1992 Wrocław has repeatedly hosted national and international championships in this sport.
Kickboxing recently became a member of the International World Games Association after being selected as an invitational sport in 2017 to introduce itself as a sport that is attractive both for the media and the spectators.
