The Olympic Stadium is gearing up for TWG 2017

Last Sunday afternoon, the roar of motorcycle engines inaugurated last speedway struggle at the Wrocław's Olympic Stadium. Now it's time for preparations for one of the biggest sport celebrations in Poland - The World Games 2017.

This match, between Wrocław’s Betard Sparta and Unibax Toruń was also a farewell event for one of the most important sport objects in the Lower Silesia capitol.  The Olympic Stadium was selected as one of The World Games 2017 venues in upcoming – in three years - event. Speedway is one of four disciplines that are being proposed by city of Wrocław as an invitational sport. It’s also a home stadium for American Football team – Panthers Wrocław – another city’s proposal as an invitational sport for TWG 2017.

However, before hosting such a serious ceremony, it has to go through an appropriate restoration works. Investment plans provided for this object, among many others, implement exchange of seats, installation of a new lighting, renovation of a facades and a new roofing. For further detailed information one will have to wait for a complex plan to be finished, approximately around the beginning of 2015.

 

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
