Wroclaw Celebrates: “One Year To Go”

Celebrating “One Year to Go to The World Games 2017”, the Wrocław Organizing Committee (WOC) has prepared a series of sport and music events starting on 22 July. The citizens of Wroclaw will get a foretaste of what is to come next year (20-30 July 2017). WOC has set out four different events to give the people advance impressions of TWG 2017. The program of the campaign was introduced during a press conference this week.

The European Champions League Final Four Tournament in American Football (22 – 24 July) will be one of the highlights of the promotion campaign, one year before the opening ceremony on 20 July 2017. The Koc Rams, the Danube Dragons, the Milan Seamen and the hosts, the Wrocław Panthers, will play off for the continental title at the main stadium.

Furthermore, the city will host a Youth Olympics Tournament. Some of The World Games sports will be included in the program for the first time in the history of this event. The organizers expect 4,500 young athletes to participate.

The last part of July will be a perfect opportunity to try TWG disciplines, as workshop areas will be prepared in several parts of the city. The World Games 2017 ambassadors and athletes will take over the parks, with a series of training sessions open to public. Maciej Janowski, top-flight speedway rider, Michał Turyński WAKO PRO kickboxing World Champion and karate European Champion Magdalena Nowakowska are among many sportspeople who have decided to showcase their sports and introduce them to the young talents.

The finale of the celebrations is set for 30 July. There will be a concert by leading Polish electronic music groups at Wolności Square in the city center. This will be an important test for the area designated as The World Games Plaza and Closing Ceremony venue for next year.

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
