Two of the newer sports at The World Games 2022, Breaking and Sport Climbing, are really spectacular - fantastic athleticism! The Champions have already been crowned in Breaking, and at the same venue – Sloss Furnaces – Sport Climbing starts on Thursday with the Speed competitions. The relatively new sport of Canoe Polo, the ancient sport of Tug of War, exciting competitions on wakeboard and waterskis, and for the very first time a Para sport, Wheelchair Rugby, also begin today.
Eleven sets of medals, Individual or Team, will be fought for today. Flag Football at Legion Field and Fistball at Panther Soccer Stadium reach their concluding day. Kickboxing’s six classes all reach Bronze medal and Final stage today. Speed in Sport Climbing is a medal event (men and women), and in Tug of War at the University of Alabama Track & Field Stadium the day’s class, 640 kg men, ends with the Bronze and Final stages.
Men’s and women’s classes in Wakeboard Freestyle, Waterski Slalom and Waterski Trick all take place today at Double Oak Lake, the Wakeboard events going through to the Semi-final stage. Wheelchair Rugby has a Low Point Team competition over four days at the Crossplex Indoor Track, with 5 matches today. And Canoe Polo starts at the Crossplex Natatorium; there are 4 men’s and 8 women’s Preliminary matches.
There are 5 matches in each of men’s and women’s Field Barebow in the penultimate day of competition in Archery at Avondale Park. Billiards in the Sheraton Ballroom is into its second day, with matches in each class to find the final 16. It’s the last-but-one day for Beach Handball at Sloss Furnaces: Semi-finals for women and Placement plus Semi-finals for men.
Preliminary matches continue today in Flying Disc (John Carroll High School), Korfball (Jefferson East Exhibit Hall), Lacrosse women’s Sixes (Compass Soccer Stadium) and Squash (University of Alabama Student Recreation Center), where there are 8 matches for both men and women to find the top 16.

The World Games is a multi-sport event staged every four years by the International World Games Association, organised with the support of the International Olympic Committee. The 11th edition of The World Games will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, 7-17 July 2022. 3,600 athletes from 34 sports and over 100 countries will take part in The World Games.
