The heat is on for The World Games in Birmingham!
The forecasted rain is coming later than expected, but you can plan on some rain by 6:00 this evening and through the night, with the potential for thunderstorms. The rain is expected to cool temperatures for tomorrow’s events, with an expected high temperature of 91° Fahrenheit (33° Celsius). There may be scattered showers during Sunday’s events, but it will be clear by early afternoon.
If the rain begins this afternoon, four sports may be affected: Canopy Piloting, Drone Racing, Breaking, Speed Skating and Men’s Lacrosse. Of course, uncovered areas of TWG Plaza may also be affected later this afternoon and evening.
Weather everywhere is notoriously difficult to predict, and Birmingham’s weather is no exception. It’s not uncommon for thunderstorms to appear suddenly in Alabama during the summer, due to the high temperatures. But, these storms are usually over quickly and have the advantage of cooling down temperatures. Forecasts change frequently, so be sure to check the weather updates throughout the day on the internet or at TWG newsletter.
