The World Games Plaza fan zone opens today

Until Saturday 30 July The World Games Plaza on plac Wolności – with its special fan zone – will be open from 15h – 23h. Already fans visiting the fan zone can find workshops connected with the disciplines of The World Games – as well as demonstrations of those disciplines which would like to be included in the Games. In addition, fans are invited to enjoy good music and concerts performed by top artists, beginning daily at 20h. Right after the award ceremony for the athletes of the day on stage which is scheduled for 19:45h.

There will be two concert stages set up. The larger one will feature, among others Kult, Grubson, Electro Acoustic Beat Sessions, Vavamuffin, Dawid Kwiatkowski and Paula & Karol. The smaller will be used by the DJ’s whose job it will be to provide a constant backdrop of music. One big attraction will be the Kaufland Athlete’s Party, planned for 26 July at 20.00. The British group Chase & Status (DJ set) will entertain fans and afterwards there will be a laser light show and video mapping demonstration on the side of the National Forum of Music.

Sport fans can also watch the competitions of the Games on large screens set up for this purpose –and in keeping with the tradition of The World Games, athletes will be frequent visitors to the fan zone where fans can meet them personally and take memorial pictures. Also each evening at 19.45 there will be the presentation of the Athlete of the Day award – for one male and one female athlete. The winners will receive a watch from Tissot, one of the sponsors of TWG 2017.

The heart of the city will be home to a beach volleyball court, where fans can give the sport their best shot. Residents of Wrocław and guests of the city can also try out the skimboarding track. The Closing Ceremony of The World Games 2017 will be held on plac Wolności. A spectacular musical and acrobatic show will commence 30 July at 21.00. The next host city of The World Games – Birmingham, Alabama in the USA – will be presented and will receive the ceremonial flag of TWG which it will keep until its turn in 2021.

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
