International Federations can nominate their candidates

Who will be named as The World Games Athlete and Team of the Year 2022? An online vote in January will decide who will be crowned the best of the best. The top performers at The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, USA will get the chance of another title. The member federations of the International World Games Association (IWGA) now have their chance to put their candidates and/or teams in position.

The deadline is 4th November for International Federations to make proposals for the shortlist. The prerequisite is that the athletes or teams must have competed at The World Games 2022, held from 7th to 17th July in the state of Alabama. A total of 34 Sports and 223 Medal events were on the programme of the eleventh edition of the multi-sport event. 3,457 athletes from 99 countries competed for the gold of the Games this summer.

Several federations have already announced their favourites for the two titles, which are awarded by online voting. Anna Jacobson, IWGA Head of Communications, expects to have a list as complete as is possible, that is with one contender for the title from every one of the 34 TWG sports in Birmingham.

The online voting platform will be launched on the IWGA website, theworldgames.org, early in January 2023. The first round of voting will close around 22nd January and determine the ten finalists. The final round of voting will begin from zero votes again, and it will last until 31st January 2023. The winners will be announced on 31st January 2023. The three best athletes and the best team will be awarded a trophy.
