The competition venues and the competition days for all 35 sports to be featured on the sports programme of The World Games 2025 have been confirmed, on the day that the International World Games Association (IWGA) celebrates its 44th anniversary (founded on 21 May 1980).
The 12th edition of The World Games will be held in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. While 35 sports are on the programme, 61 disciplines and 254 medal events will fill up the action-packed ten-days of competition.
Eight competition clusters will use a total of 28 venues having state-of-the-art infrastructures. The Chengdu 2025 Organising Committee has proposed sports facilities that are up to the highest international standards, promising optimum conditions for some of the world’s best 4000+ athletes who will be participating in The World Games next year.
The plan includes a core of existing venues along with assembling temporary infrastructures for The World Games, minimising the negative impact on the environment and on the overall cost of the multi-sport event.
Eight of the proposed venues have previously served for the FISU World University Games in summer 2023. The Opening Ceremony in the stadium as well as Canoe Polo, Gymnastics / Cheerleading, Karate / Ju-Jitsu / Sambo, Wushu / Powerlifting, all three disciplines of DanceSport, Floorball and Indoor Korfball will be hosted in venues used during the FISU Games.
Despite Chengdu being Sichuan province’s capital with an estimated population of close to 20 million citizens, the distances between each venue at peak traffic time and from/to the Athletes Villages and the official hotels is a maximum of 60 minutes. An efficient transportation network will be implemented to facilitate travel between the different locations.
IWGA President José Perurena said: “The World Games 2025 in Chengdu will offer an unprecedented experience for everyone attending, harnessing Chinese hospitality and their solid experience in hosting world-class sports events. The Organising Committee is focused on hosting a spectacular, impactful and sustainable Games with a lasting legacy for Chengdu and the region. We are more than satisfied with the venues proposed, and our International Member Federations have been consulted throughout the process. We have full confidence that it will be a remarkable event at the heart of a dynamic community.”
