Hong Kong, 10 October 2024 – The highly anticipated inaugural edition of The World Games Series officially begins tomorrow at GO PARK Sai Sha, Hong Kong, marking a monumental step towards The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China.
This first-ever Series, running from 11-13 October, features elite athletes from 34 countries*, all vying for qualification spots to compete at the prestigious IWGA flagship event in Chengdu from 7-17 August 2025.

Initiated by the International World Games Association (IWGA) and fully supported by the Samaranch Foundation, the Hong Kong Series edition welcomes 87 athletes – 54 women and 33 men - representing three International Federations: International Cheer Union (ICU), World Skate and International Wushu Federation (IWF).
These athletes will showcase their talents in Cheerleading Pom Doubles, Roller Inline Freestyle (Slalom Classic and Slalom Freestyle), and Wushu Taolu disciplines.
IWGA President José Perurena expressed his enthusiasm for this historic event, saying:
"The World Games Series is a milestone moment for the global sporting community. Not only does it serve as a stepping stone for athletes on their journey to Chengdu in 2025, but it also brings attention to emerging sports and athletes. Hong Kong’s incredible support has set a high standard for the Series, and we look forward to continuing this momentum."
Milestone on the Road to Chengdu 2025
The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China will feature athletes from a diverse range of 35 sports and 61 disciplines, and the Hong Kong Series offers an additional opportunity for competitors to secure their qualification spots. Eleven (11) quota places for Chengdu are up for grabs in Hong Kong, including:
- Cheerleading, Pom, Doubles: 1 couple
- Roller, Inline Freestyle, Slalom Classic: 1 man and 1 woman
- Roller, Inline Freestyle, Slalom Freestyle: 1 man and 1 woman
- Wushu, Taolu: 3 men and 3 women
The Samaranch Foundation, whose legacy continues to promote sport and the Olympic values globally, has played a key role in the planning and successful launch of The World Games Series.

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
