With 500 days to go until the 12th edition of The World Games to be held in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025, the athletes’ focus is very much on qualifying for the event. The qualification process is mainly happening between now and the end of the year. Each International Member Federation sets its own qualification criteria and holds qualifying events in the lead up to TWG.
In a year and four months, the world will live a moment of great celebration and festivity for the masses in China’s fourth largest and happiest city where another major sport event will leave a strong legacy for the citizens and the whole region.
With an inclusive and appealing programme, a total of 262 gold medals will be awarded in 35 sports and 62 disciplines*. Around 5,000 athletes from more than 100 countries are will vie for a medal in Chengdu.
As the world will be applauding the exploits of the world’s foremost athletes, these Games are an unprecedented opportunity to celebrate sport’s diversity and open up people’s attitude towards upcoming sports.
The IWGA and the LOC are looking forward to witnessing TWG electric atmosphere during the ten-day competition.

This event will leave an important legacy for China and for our Member Federations, which I’m sure will continue to inspire future generations of Chinese and sport fans around the globe.”

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 38 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
