On 1 and 2 December 2021, representatives of National Olympic Committees (NOC) and National Sports Organisations (NSO) will gather together in Birmingham, Alabama for a preparation meeting for The World Games. The focus will be on how NOCs and NSOs can best support their respective athletes at the 11th edition of The World Games.
The International World Games Association (IWGA) together with the Birmingham Organizing Committee (BOC) has already issued invitations to the meeting. The World Games multi-sport event will take place from 7 to 17 July 2022. The programme includes 34 sports with 58 disciplines and 223 medal events. During the ten days of competition, 3,600 athletes from more than 100 countries will compete for gold.
In their invitation letter, IWGA CEO Joachim Gossow and Nick Sellers CEO of the BOC state: "We closely collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders whose knowledge and experience will contribute to the ultimate success of The World Games 2022. The mission of this meeting will be focused on the major organizational issues of TWG 2022. The subject matter under discussion will refer to NOC and NSO support of participating International Federations, and their athletes, existing facilities in the host city, sport disciplines, venues and official sports program.”
Many NOCs/NSOs issue their athletes with uniforms as representatives of their country. In addition, they are the point of contact for their participants during the Games. Also of great importance is the support that NOC/NSOs give in the worldwide media coverage. The Media Representatives of these organisations convey the successes and achievements of their athletes to the media in their home countries. They contribute to giving well-deserved recognition for outstanding performances at The World Games.
At The World Games 2017 in Wroclaw, Poland, 26 NOCs/NSOs were on site supporting their athletes, including Belgium, China, Germany, Russia and the Czech Republic. The NOC/NSO meeting in the host city has also become a tradition, an essential part of the preparation and an important milestone towards ensuring that the event achieves the greatest possible success.
