COVID-19 Policy for TWG 2022 adapted

The American Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has adjusted its regulations to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Since 12th June, no negative COVID test has to be presented when entering the USA. This change therefore applies to participants in The World Games 2022, to be held from 7th to 17th July in Birmingham, Alabama. The Birmingham Organising Committee (BOC), together with the International World Games Association (IWGA), has adapted its COVID-19 policy for the Games, where there will be more than 3,600 athletes from 108 nations.

While no negative test is needed, all participants are required to be fully vaccinated with the primary series of an accepted COVID-19 vaccine, subject only to religious or medical exemptions.  At this time, while this The World Games 2022 Protocol permits religious or medical exemptions, the United States requires all non-US citizens or non-US immigrants to be fully vaccinated with the primary series of an accepted COVID-19 vaccine prior to travel to the United States by plane.

Last Call for Visa Applications

At the same time, the IWGA is urgently reminding participants that the visa regulations of the USA also apply to the participants in The World Games. IWGA CEO Joachim Gossow clarifies the position: "There will be no exceptions. Those who do not have a visa will not be able to enter the USA and will miss out on their participation in the Games, which promise to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

All athletes and officials who do not yet have a visa should now apply immediately. They will receive assistance from their respective International Federations. A total of 34 sports are on the programme of the eleventh edition of The World Games.

The World Games is a multi-sport event staged every four years by the International World Games Association, organised with the support of the International Olympic Committee. The 11th edition of The World Games will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, 7-17 July 2022. 3,600 athletes from 34 sports and over 100 countries will take part in The World Games.

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
