Successful first meeting in Birmingham

The first Coordination Committee meeting for The World Games 2021 was held last week in Birmingham, Alabama. The agenda covered many items, in particular the budget, the sports programme and the venues for the Games.

“The meeting took place in a great atmosphere created by frank and honest discussions and based on well-prepared presentations on all items. In running through the whole agenda, both parties gained a better understanding of each other and came to a common outlook in all matters”, IWGA CEO Joachim Gossow said.

The newly elected Mayor of Birmingham, Randall Woodfin, visited the meeting as well. “The visit of Mayor Randall Woodfin at the beginning of the CoCom meeting in the morning enabled the IWGA President José Perurena to congratulate him personally on his election. Birmingham’s new Mayor showed up with already detailed knowledge about the project, and the IWGA representatives could appreciate that he is as well committed to the Games as his predecessor, Mayor Bell”, Gossow says.

It is yet to be decided which sports and venues will be on the final programme for Birmingham 2021. Joachim Gossow says that the programme is expected to be finalised at the SportAccord Convention in Bangkok, Thailand in April.
