TWG 2017 Helps Boosts Host City Sports Infrastructure
State-of-the-art swimming pools for Wroclaw
Wroclaw Investment Company (WIC) has settled the tender for the reconstruction of the swimming pools located at Wejherowska Street in the Northwest of the City. The project has been part of the venue preparations for The World Games 2017. The citizens of Wroclaw will benefit from the refurbishment of the existing outdoor swimming pool and the building of a brand-new indoor venue.
Because of TWG 2017, this investment in the sports infrastructure of the city will be realized earlier than originally scheduled. The Ministry of Sport is financially committed to the project and will cover 50% of the cost. The new facilities will be two of about 20 venues for The World Games 2017. They will be used for Finswimming, Canoe Polo and Life Saving. Construction work for the whole project will be finished by December 2016.
The City of Wroclaw announced: “The conversion of the swimming pool at Wejherowska Street is most probably the investment connected to The World Games 2017 that Wroclaw citizens are most looking forward to.” If the decision of the tender commission comes into force, this will mean that WIC will spend 67.8 Mill PNL (19 Million USD) on the two projects. The indoor swimming pool (Olympic size) has been budgeted at 46.8 Mill PLN (13.1 Mill USD), and the outdoor facility will cost 21 Mill PLN (5.9 Mill USD).
WIC decided not to select the lowest bid, but one that presents favorable warranty periods for the various elements of the project. “We are confident that the citizens will be able to use the outdoor pools at Wejherowska Street next year,” said Marek Szempliński, a WIC spokesperson . He added: “The final deadline for the indoor pool will be set before we sign the contract with the contractor. But right now we aim to be ready before the end of 2016.”
