Stadium Grand Opening

Stadium Grand Opening

published on 10 April, 2017

Last Saturday, the residents of Wrocław were - for the very first time since its renovation - able to check out Olympic Stadium in person. The honour of christening the newly remodelled venue went to some of the city’s youngest citizens as they took part in a special edition of The World Games Youth Cup. The festivities will also included speedway racers and American football players - who, thanks to the renovation, will again be able to call the stadium home.

Mini Games for a younger generation of athletes

On Saturday, children and teenagers had the opportunity to compete against each other in the various disciplines of The World Games 2017. The youngest, pre-school aged children tried their luck at flying disc, bowling and tug-of-war. Meanwhile, those hailing from Wrocław-area junior high schools competed in floorball and sumo and those older, post-junior high school aged in korfball and indoor rowing. Wrocław Mayor Rafał Dutkiewicz personally handed out the most important prizes.

Speedway racing back “on track”

Fans who turned out to Saturday’s event were welcomed by a truly diverse spectacle, with demonstrations from athletes competing in American football, lacrosse and speedway racing.

Fans in attendance - young and old alike - were also able to try out a range of TWG disciplines (flying disc, American football, boules, lacrosse, floorball) themselves in addition to testing their sport knowledge in a special The World Games 2017 quiz.

Olympic Stadium - a key venue for The World Games 2017

The newly upgraded Olympic Stadium will serve the needs of American football teams and speedway racing events on a daily basis. Before that, however, it will be the site of some of the most anticipated competitions of The World Games 2017 (22 and 24 July) when the American football national teams of the USA, Germany, France and Poland go head-to-head. Five days later (29 July) it will welcome speedway racers for their competition.

Tickets for these - and other TWG events - can be purchased by visiting: www.ebilet.pl.
