President Perurena about TWG 2017

published on 1 August, 2017

IWGA President José Perurena reflects on The World Games that just are over.

What are your impressions after the TWG2017?
I am very impressed by the organisation. The venues were top class and everything was very well organised. The people were friendly and smiling, and the volunteers extremely helpful. We felt very welcome in Wroclaw.
All feedback I have got from athletes and officials from international federations has been positive. The athletes praised the organisers for having organised excellent conditions for the competitions, as well as accommodation and catering of good standard. This is to me the most important thing: the athletes are satisfied and happy with the Games.

Could you feel the spirit of The World Games in Wrocław?
The city was been very well branded, and you could see flags and banners everywhere. In the city centre, the atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming, and you could meet dozens of athletes from different countries.
The World Games Plaza was very popular and it was a pleasure to see it full or nearly full every evening. Wroclaw is a beautiful city and very suitable host for The World Games.

How about the venues?
This is the beauty of The World Games: the venues were close to the public or even in the city centre. The climbing wall was spectacular, and the orienteering sprint in Wrocław Old Town as well!
The venues were of an excellent standard and the most professional ones I’ve ever seen at The World Games. The organisers had done a really good job with them. Even if there was the storm last week, which destroyed parts of the venues, the organisers and the volunteers were able to re-build the venues in less than a few hours, which is really impressive.
All in all, I really want to praise the Wroclaw Organising Committee for the work they have done. Thank you!
