José Perurena (International Canoe Federation) was re-elected as IWGA President today at the Annual General Meeting of the International World Games Association (IWGA), held in Bangkok, Thailand. Max Bishop (World Air Sports Federation) was re-elected as Vice President and Lukas Hinder (World DanceSport Federation) was appointed as Treasurer of the IWGA.

Anna Arzhanova (World Underwater Federation) will continue as a member of the Executive Committee; Volker Bernardi (World Flying Disc Federation), Antonio Espinós (World Karate Federation) and Jan Fransoo (International Korfball Federation) come in as new members. All 37 member federations were represented at the Annual General Meeting.

Newly re-elected President José Perurena says: “I am happy for the support our Executive Committee receives from the member federations. The IFs obviously are confident with the work of the ExCo in the last period and convinced by the new colleagues to the Board for the next period. We have an excellent host for our 2021 Games in Birmingham, Alabama, and in the coming four years we plan to build further on the successes we achieved last year in Wroclaw.”

“I hope these coming years will be remembered as a period of calm, steady development, untarnished by scandals, in which the top athletes in our sports have the opportunity to enjoy an ‘almost Olympic’ experience, and in which the Host Cities remain proud and grateful for the opportunity we are giving them to host The World Games.”

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
