A Test Event for TWG 2017: Orienteering World Cup in Wroclaw

The event center of the Orienteering World Cup (30 April to 2 May 2016) will be located in Wroclaw, Poland. The competition will consist of middle distance, sprint distance and sprint relay. The competition held by the International Orienteering federation will be a test event for The World Games 2017 in Wroclaw. Three races are on the programme of the Orienteering World Cup this weekend staged at three unique venues: Wrocław, Sobótka (mountain Ślęża) and Trzebnica. This will definitely be an orienteering feast. What’s going to happen in Lower Silesia? Let’s see…

Big, rocky challenge

The terrain near Wroclaw is completely flat and suddenly Ślęża appears from nowhere. This mountain will be the event arena for middle distance. Steep slopes and rocky ground for sure can be a challenge for all runners. They will not be disappointed by diversity of terrain which features erosive forms of relief with complex contour details, ravines and deep valley. Precision in navigation and high concentration will be a key for success in the middle distance in Sobótka.

The meeting and… orienteering place

Wroclaw, the capital of Lower Silesia, is called the meeting place. On 1 May 2016 it will also become an orienteering place. Here, in the centre of the town, the host will provide sprint qualification and final full of emotions. Flat, urban terrain with intermittent buildings – this is what runners should expect. There are many orienteering maps in our city, but those provided for the World Cup will be really tricky,” promises Wojciech Dwojak, the Event Director.

Full of emotions…

Wroclaw will be the heart of The World Games 2017 and one of the races will be held in Trzebnica. This is why the last race of Orienteering World Cup will also be organized there. Runners will take part in sprint relay which is the most exciting distance, especially for fans. Relay will take place in the centre of this old city, so interesting excursions might be a great addition for this event.
