Kristin Lätt, a rising star in the world of disc golf, has secured an impressive second place in The World Games Athlete of the Year 2024 campaign. With a total of 51,338 votes, Lätt finished as the runner-up behind Indonesia’s Veddriq Leonardo, who claimed the top spot with 77,045 votes.
Lätt, representing the sport of flying disc, expressed deep gratitude for the honour of being recognised among elite athletes from a diverse range of sports.
"I’m incredibly honoured to be nominated for flying disc and to stand alongside athletes from such a wide variety of sports," she shared. "It’s truly humbling to be recognised in this way, especially knowing how much passion and dedication every athlete puts into their craft."
The Disc Golf Community and Growth
The overwhelming support from fans and the global disc golf community played a significant role in Lätt’s success in the campaign. She extended heartfelt appreciation to her supporters, saying, "Every effort to promote the sport makes a difference, and seeing so many people come together to raise awareness for disc golf is truly inspiring."
As disc golf continues to expand worldwide, Lätt sees her recognition as a major step in helping the sport reach new audiences.
"It’s amazing to see disc golf reaching more people, and if this recognition helps introduce the sport to new audiences, that brings me so much joy," she stated.
With disc golf set to return to The World Games as a medal sport, Lätt is optimistic about the sport’s future on the international stage.
She envisions disc golf potentially reaching the Olympic level one day, though she believes its value extends beyond that.
"Having disc golf on that stage would be incredible, but no matter what, I’ll continue to play with the same passion," she affirmed.
