Interview with IWGA CEO Joachim Gossow

“We are delivering the best pictures ever”

The coverage of The World Games 2017 is the most successful live production on the Olympic Channel since it started in September 2016. IWGA CEO Joachim Gossow announced this at the daily IWGA press conference on Tuesday. Mr. Gossow cited information he received from the IWGA TV Coordinator Hagen Bossdorf.

The IWGA CEO praised the quality of the production, comprising more the 340 hours of content, provided by the Spanish production company ISB in cooperation with ATM system from Poland. Joachim Gossow said: “I think we are delivering the best pictures we ever had of The World Games and of some of the sports in our event.”

Mr. Gossow gave examples for the positive feedback concerning the TV production of the multi-sports event in Wroclaw, Poland

“In Germany people can watch more than 60 hours of live coverage on Sport1. The channel also enhances the quality by its appropriate commentary. Our sports are very well explained.” He added: “Some other broadcasters in different countries have already extended their coverage of The World Games events.”

Joachim Gossow took the opportunity to compliment the host broadcaster: “They are doing a great job!” The host broadcaster delivers state of the art pictures of The World Games. Live feeds, news clips and delayed recaps of the competition are available for TV channels in more than 120 countries such as China, Germany, Japan, Russia and the USA, transmitted over the Olympic Channel, a newly launched internet television network.

ATM is the largest independent TV production company in Poland. Dorota Baron and Mariusz are in charge of the production for ATM. Manolo Romero from IBS, one of the most experienced TV producers of sport events, was appointed as head of the project team. Manolo Romero has been responsible for the TV production of the Olympics since 1968.

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
