As fans of The World Games know, no event is complete without timing, scoring, accreditation and broadcasting. This month, the Birmingham Organizing Committee of The World Games 2021 welcomed special guests from around the globe to begin preparing for these crucial elements.
In October, International Sports Broadcasting (ISB) joined representatives from The International World Games Association and The Birmingham Organizing Committee for a planning meeting in Birmingham, less than two years ahead of the start of The Games.
With a deep history of excellence in broadcast management, ISB delivers images and sound using state-of-the-art technology and equipment in order to provide superior live coverage of sports events. During The World Games 2021, ISB will coordinate the broadcasting of all events, offering fans across the globe a front-row seat for all of the action taking place.
At the beginning of the week, after introductions were made and objectives were established in planning meetings, the group set off for a tour of the many venues of The World Games 2021. From Oak Mountain State Park to Boutwell Auditorium, the group evaluated and discussed the best camera angles for broadcasts, determined optimal placement for timing equipment and enjoyed envisioning the fields of play which will soon be established at locations across Birmingham.
Over the course of five days, the teams visited all of the venues for The World Games 2021, exploring many diverse areas around the city. The guests were also introduced to Southern American culture by sampling dishes at popular local restaurants and by playing a few friendly frames of bowling after a full day of meetings.
As the week closed, the teams gathered to discuss next steps ahead of The World Games 2021. Topics included the finalization of production schedules, details around athlete accreditation, discussion around the logistics of filming live television, and continuing the coordination of timing and scoring operations to ensure the best possible experience for competing athletes. By the end of the final meeting, one thing was clear: all of the partners were equally passionate about the event, and were certain that, through collaboration and hard work, The World Games 2021 would find success.
