Online vote until 31 January to determine the “Best of the Best”

IWGA Seeks Athlete(s) of the Year, 2016

The International World Games Association (IWGA) has now launched an online vote for the athlete or the team of the year. Until 31 January supporters and friends of The World Games can cast a vote for the top athlete / the top team of 2016. Voting is available online on the IWGA website.

The first round of voting will close on 15 January and determine the top ten finalists. The final round starts on 16 January and last until 31 January 2017. The winner will be announced on 1 February 2017. A trophy will be awarded in cooperation with the winner’s federation.

Voting will also be promoted on the IWGA Facebook Channel, Instagram and Twitter Accounts. This means that supporters of a candidate will be able to share their enthusiasm and encourage other fans to support an athlete or team.

Sixteen candidates have been shortlisted, and World Games fans can choose their favorite with a click. The shortlist comprises the candidates nominated by their international federations with sports on the program of The World Games 2017 in Wroclaw/Poland. As last year, some of the IWGA Athletes of the Month are candidates for election as Athlete/Team of the Year too.

It is the fourth time that the IWGA has staged a vote for the Athlete of the Year. “It’s a kind of tradition starting a new year celebrating the achievements of our outstanding athletes. This time we are not only looking back to successes in the past. We also look forward to our event in Poland. Most of our candidates on the shortlist will compete in The World Games from 20 to 30 July, too”, explained IWGA President José Perurena.
