International Softball Federation appoints president

The International Softball Federation (ISF) has appointed Dale McMann president, following the retirement of former head Don Porter who held the position for 26 years since 1987.

McMann served as president of Softball British Columbia from 1986 to 1990 before serving as president of Softball Canada from 1990 to 2001. He acted as ISF north American vice-president from 1993 to 2009, ahead of being elected its first vice-president in 2009.

Porter – who will remain as co-president of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) – saw softball’s failed attempt to regain its place onto the Olympic programme from 2020 in September, following a joint bid with baseball that was beat by wrestling.

Sixty-year-old McMann said: “I am honoured with the great trust the membership of the International Softball Federation has offered me. I want to acknowledge the many decades of service Mr. Don Porter has given to our sport and I look forward to his continued guidance and efforts.”

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) included softball as an Olympic sport from the 1996 Games before excluding it in 2005, to take effect after the 2008 Olympics.

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
