IOC President Urges NOC Support for World Games 2017

The XX ANOC General Assembly will be held in Washington, D.C./USA this week. In advance of this meeting, IOC President Thomas Bach has sent a letter to the Presidents of the 206 National Olympic Committees stressing the importance of The World Games.

Dr. Bach wrote: “The International World Games Association and The World Games event play important roles in the framework of the Olympic Movement.” He encouraged all National Olympic Committees to support the 10th edition of The World Games in Wroclaw/Poland, 20-30 July 2017.

During the General Assembly of ANOC in Washington, IWGA President José Perurena will have an opportunity to present TWG2017 - the biggest multisport event ever to be held in Poland. his speech on Friday, José Perurena will invite delegates from the National Olympic Committees to attend the event in two years times and to do their very best to support their athletes competing in 27 sports on the official programme.

José Perurena appreciated Thomas Bach’s letter: “Close cooperation with the IOC and the NOCs is essential to take our event up to the next step. We are grateful for Thomas Bach’s endorsement of TWG2017. I agree with his assessment: The 9th edition of our event in Cali/Colombia was an outstanding success, not least thanks to the support of the NOCs.” The IWGA President went on to say: “In 2017, we aim for nothing less than the best World Games ever. One of the stepping stones to help us reach this goal is close cooperation with National Olympic Committees.”
