First Competition Managers Meeting for 2021

First Competition Managers Meeting for 2021

published on 19 September, 2018

On 3 and 4 October, the Birmingham Organising Committee (BOC) will welcome the International Sport Federations on their first official visit to Birmingham, Alabama. The representatives of the sports on the programme of The World Games 2021 will assemble for the first Competition Managers Meeting. This preparation meeting is one of the important milestones on the way to Birmingham.

The meeting will commence with a welcome from the Mayor of Birmingham, Randall Woodfin. Over the course of the two days, the BOC looks to showcase its proposed venues to the federation members, as well as give an update on progress towards the 11th edition of The World Games, to be held from 15 to 25 July 2021.

The two-day meeting will include a package of presentations delivered by members of the IWGA, BOC, and Official Partners. The federation representatives will visit their respective proposed competition venues, and will also gather for social events like the BBVA Compass Iron City Showdown, an NBA exhibition game featuring the Houston Rockets vs. the Memphis Grizzlies, and a reception at Top Golf Birmingham.

During the meeting, the BOC looks to gain approval from the federation members on the proposed venues for their sport’s competition. Once the venues are approved, the BOC can have further discussions with the venues for contracting the use of their facility for The World Games 2021.

The BOC looks forward to hosting the Competition Managers next month for what will be the first of two Competition Manager Meetings in the build-up programme.

According to IWGA’s Rules of The World Games, Competition Managers take care of all aspects of running the competitions before and during the event. The International Federations’ representatives will cooperate with the local organisers and the IWGA very closely in order to set up the best possible conditions for the event in July 2021.
