Jelcz-Laskowice to co-host TWG 2017

Jelcz-Laskowice will one of four co-hosts of The World Games 2017. The competition in Indoor Rowing will take place in city in the Lower Silesia region near to Wroclaw, the main host city of TWG 2017 (20 -30 July 2017). Indoor Rowing is one of the invitational sports on the programme of the multi-sports event next year in Poland. Wojciech Adamski, Vice Mayor of the city of Wrocław, and Bogdan Szczęśniak, Mayor of Jelcz-Laskowice>signed the contract which establishes the partnership.

The competitions in indoor rowing will take place on 26-27 July 1017 in the state-of-art Hall of Sports of Jelcz-Laskowice. There will be around 100 athletes participating during two days of qualifications and finals. The Hall of Sports can host up to 900 spectators. Jelcz-Laskowice is located just 25 kilometers form the Wrocław city center. It has a very good road and railway connection with the region’s capital. Jelcz-Laskowice  is one of the youngest cities in Poland as it acquired its rights in 1987.

Wojciech Adamski, Vice Mayor of the city of Wrocław, said about the cooperation with Jelcz-Laskowice: “From the very beginning of the organizational process, we wanted to have other municipalities and local governments involved in The World Games. We believe that we should share this wonderful festival of sports with the cities in our region.” Bogdan Szczęśniak, Mayor of Jelcz-Laskowice: “We are very pleased to be a part of The World Games. We see great potential in this event. I am sure that all the participants, athletes and supporters will have a great time in our city”.

Jelcz-Laskowice is one of four venues located outside Wrocław. The other are: Świdnica’s rink (in-line hockey and artistic skating), Trzebnica’s Beech Forest (Orienteering) and Szymanów’s airfield (air sports).

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
