On Thursday 9 May the representatives of the 37 member federations will meet for the IWGA’s Annual General Meeting at the SportAccord convention in Australia. The most important topic on the agenda at Gold Coast will be the vote on the ratification of the host contract with the Chinese city of Chengdu for the 12th edition of The World Games in 2025.

The IWGA board will propose ratification to the members, following an evaluation of the bid and intensive discussions on the Host City Contract. If the proposal receives a simple majority, the contract can be signed immediately afterwards by IWGA President José Perurena and the Mayor of Chengdu.

Also during the meeting, CEO DJ Mackovets and Sports Director Steve Mistrot of the Birmingham Organising Committee will report on progress in the preparation of The World Games 2021. This will include the contract with the host broadcaster, and the official time-keeper. In addition, information will be given about the selection of competition venues for the event; this work has largely been completed. The World Games 2021 are scheduled for 15 to 25 July.

Apart from the upcoming event, there are regulatory matters on the meeting programme. Treasurer Lukas Hinder will present the Financial Report. Board members Jan Franzoo and Antonio Espinos are going to present the first proposals for the strategic development of The World Games in the future. Last but not least a marketing concept will be introduced to the Members to achieve better marketing of the Games.

As always, the IWGA is pleased that the IOC Sports Director, Kit McConnell follows the invitation to be present at the meeting. He will describe the developing cooperation between the IOC and the IWGA.
