Congratulations to our Athletes of the Day for Monday at The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama. On the fourth day of competition of the eleventh edition of the Games, the Hungarian athlete Petra Senanszky a Gold Medalist in Finswimming and Life Saving and the Bowling athlete Sam Cooley were celebrated on stage at The World Games Plaza. IWGA board member Jan Fransoo and Marcel Hassemeier, one of the IWGA Greatest Athletes of All Time, presented them with a certificate and a gift, supplied by Protective Life.
Unique by Diversity: Petra Senanszky
Petra Senanszky is unique: she is the first athlete to win gold in two different sports at The World Games. On Friday, the 28-year-old was unbeatable in the Finswimming Women's Bi Fins 50m. On Saturday, she was once again at the top of the podium. This time after her victory in the Women's Bi Fins 100m race. When the finswimmers finished their competition and headed home, Petra Senanszky simply changed sports. From Sunday she was a Life Saver and took gold in Women's Team 4x50 Obstacle Relay. On Monday she won silver Women's Team 4x50 Medley Relay. This also makes her the only athlete at The World Games to win a medal on four consecutive days. To complete the rundown of medals, the Hungarian also won silver in the Women's Surface Relay 4x100m on Friday.
After 25 Years: Sam Cooley
Sam Cooley celebrated the biggest success in his career today, Monday. The victory of the Australian, who has previously won only one PBA title (2021 at the Cheetah Championship, Tampa, Florida), is one of the big surprises at The World Games 2022. The 30-year-old beat Jaroslav Lorenc 2-1 in the final, and his success put Australia back on The World Games stage in bowling. The last time the nation won a medal in bowling was in 1997. Andrew Frawley and Cara Honeychurch won silver in the doubles mixed in Lahti, Finland.
The World Games is a multi-sport event staged every four years by the International World Games Association, organised with the support of the International Olympic Committee. The 11th edition of The World Games will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, 7-17 July 2022. 3,600 athletes from 34 sports and over 100 countries will take part in The World Games.
