Alejandro Blanco Bravo welcomes the TWG Family

The Spanish National Olympic Committee supports The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, USA. This support was emphasised by NOC President Chairman Alejandro Blanco Bravo during the Annual General Meeting of the International World Games Association in Madrid.

Mr. Alejandro Blanco Bravo welcomed The World Games family to his country and city at the beginning of the meeting on Thursday. During his speech, the NOC President expressed to the delegates from the 39 IWGA member federations his high expectations for the event in Birmingham, Alabama, which takes place from the 7-17 July. He also highlighted the importance of the Games for the athletes competing in the 34 sports.

Ninety-eight participants from Spain have qualified for the 11th edition of The World Games. They will compete in 60 of a total 223 Medal Events. Among them is Sandra Sanchez Jaime. The karateka won gold for her country at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, and now has the chance to repeat this success at The World Games in Birmingham.

On Thursday, IWGA President José Perurena met with the representatives of the Spanish sports federations sending athletes to TWG 2022, to inform them personally about the state of preparations.

 The World Games is a multi-sport event staged every four years by the International World Games Association, organised with the support of the International Olympic Committee. The 11th edition of The World Games will be held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, 7-17 July 2022. 3,600 athletes from 34 sports and over 100 countries will take part in The World Games.

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
