After Hard Rain on Saturday: Back on Track

After Hard Rain on Saturday: Back on Track

published on 10 July, 2022

The heavy rain and thunderstorms on Saturday evening affected the schedule on the second day of competition at the World Games 2022 in Birmingham Alabama. However, the storm did not cause any major damage. On Sunday, the competitions in twenty sports started as scheduled. There was one small exception: in Archery in Avondale Park, there was a small delay and it was 9:30 before the the athletes took up their bows. Canopy Piloting has been postponed today due to the overcast conditions.

However, there were one or two things to catch up on from Saturday. In Softball, the sessions cancelled on Saturday were rescheduled to the morning at Hoover Met. The Battles in Breaking, which were scheduled for Saturday evening at the Sloss Furnace venue, took place instead on Sunday morning. In addition, part of the preliminary competition in Drone Racing on Saturday night was cancelled. The competition itself was able to continue on Sunday at the Protective Stadium.

The concert of Grammy winner Lupe Fiasco was also affected. The weather prevented his performance on Saturday. The rapper said, "No problem. I'll perform on Sunday then." He will take to the stage tonight at 9pm at The Word Games Plaza.

In some ways, the heavy rain had a positive effect. Temperatures hovered around 40 degrees Celsius (105 Fahrenheit) throughout the day on Saturday. Overnight, it cooled significantly to 27 degrees Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit). We know the athletes who compete outside are quite grateful for this.
