A Win for Africa this Time?

Five days left to go to vote for the IWGA Athlete of the Year. Until 31st January supporters can still support their favorite athlete or team by participating in the voting on the website: www.theworldgames.org.

mwai kumwenda cantidate AOTY Award IWGA the World GamesLooking at the preliminary results after nearly four weeks of voting, Mwai Kumwenda from Malawi is still leading with 13,655 votes. The 26-year-old netball player has achieved a huge lead on entering the final stretch. Second is the Russian dance couple, Dmitry Zharkov and Olga Kulikova, who have collected 5,558 votes. The third place currently goes to the Flying Disc Beach Ultimate Mixed Team from Germany (4,457 votes).

The winner will be announced after the public vote has closed on 31st January. A trophy will be awarded in cooperation with the winner’s federation.

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
