Adam Ondra received his IWGA Athlete of the Year 2014 award during the IFSC World Cup in Chamonix (FRA)

2014 double World Champion (Bouldering and Lead) Adam Ondra from the Czech Republic was given the IWGA Athlete of the Year 2014 award, as well as a Tissot watch, by Joachim Gossow, CEO of the IWGA.

The ceremony was held on Saturday 11th July after the Speed Finals of the IFSC Climbing World Cup in Chamonix. A large crowd was there to cheer on the athlete as he received his award and gave a speech.

This commemorative trophy recognizes Adam Ondra’s outstanding achievements in 2014. The election for athlete or team of the year was held online voting from 1 until 31 January, and the 22-year-old Czech climber topped the poll with 34,1 % of the votes.

The International World Games Association (IWGA) is a non-profit-making international sports organisation recognised and supported by the International Olympic Committee. The IWGA comprises 40 International Member Sports Federations. It administers and promotes The World Games (TWG), a multi-sport event held every four years that features around 35 sports on its programme. The next edition of TWG will be in Chengdu (CHN) from 7-17 August 2025. 5,000 participants from more than 100 countries are expected to take part in this 12th edition. The latest Games were hosted by Birmingham, Alabama (USA).
