By January 22, close to 120,000 votes have been cast in the Athlete of the Year race – a race that is proving tighter and more exciting than ever before! 21 candidates nominated by their international federations began in the vote on January 1. Now we are down to the 10 best fighting for the title Athlete of the Year 2017, all of them having been extraordinarily successful at The World Games 2017.
The fastest man on earth, with the longest name on earth, Speed Sport Climber Reza Alipourshenazandifar is leading the vote right now with 32,469 votes. He became the first ever Iranian winner at The World Games last summer, and he currently holds the world record in Speed Climbing. But Speed Roller Skater Fabriana Arias (COL), triple winner in Wroclaw, is not far behind with her 30,899 votes. Larysa Soloviova (UKR), Powerlifting winner at four consecutive World Games, is fighting hard against the speed athletes and could very well still take the whole game.
There are still 9 days to go, and anything can happen! Recently, especially the athletes in Tug of War, DanceSport and Waterski & Wakeboard have been gaining votes from their fans. Those athletes who continue to harvest votes throughout the whole of January will be the ones rewarded at the end!
