Souvenir!
The favourites for the Men's competitions are the US, Japanese, Russian, British and of course Chinese gymnasts. In Women's competitions, the Chinese will also be among the favourites along with the US, Russian and Rumanian gymnasts. Two former gymnasts will be following the competitions from their seats with a hint of nostalgia 30 years after their participation at the Los Angeles Olympics: the « flying Chinese » Li Ning and Peter Vidmar (USA) confronted each other in the legendary All Around to rank respectively third and second behind the Japanese Koji Gushiken. Since then Li Ning has gone into business, while Peter Vidmar chairs USA Gymnastics and is a member of the FIG Executive Committee and Media Commission.
After Tianjin 1999, the Chinese Gymnastics Association stages the Artistic World Championships for the second time. Just a few weeks from the opening ceremony, its President Luo Chaoyi is confident and looking forward to welcoming the world's best gymnasts in his country.
